TELEVISION SAFETY TIPS
Every year more than 100 children visit the
hospital emergency department in
Canada as a result of being hurt by a television that has toppled over.
Statistics Canada reports that in many of these cases the TV was set on a
simple stand or cart, while the remainder were in wall units, shelving and on
dressers. Children can suffer head injuries, broken bones, crushed
nerves and internal injuries if the set falls on
top of them.
Here are some tips to use when visiting hotel
rooms to reduce the risk of children being injured by television sets toppling
over:
·
As toddlers
are the most commonly aged children injured by televisions, close supervision
in the hotel room or other area is necessary.
·
Ask the
hotel if there is any way the television set can be secured to the dresser or
table.
·
Teach
children not to pull, climb or play near or on televisions and television
stands.
·
Teach
children not to pull on or play with cords, plugs and television buttons.
